Year 10 students took part in an event called ‘Young Voices United’ on June 7th at Brunel University. The event, in partnership with Hillingdon Council, was attended by a selection of other local schools and the Global Academy students created a piece of spoken word about the topic of Hate Crime and Extremism.
We also worked with Hillingdon Council and the Met Police to host a special live performance about ‘stop and search’ for the Year 10s.
Students got to experience professional artists on their doorstep as part of the Hayes Arts Festival which is taking place in Hayes Town Centre. We also have three Year 12 students working with the social media team as part of their Summer work experience giving them practical hands on industry experience.
Year 10 students have spent the past few weeks working towards their end of term show ‘The Global Academy Talent Celebration’. Delivered through their media lessons, they have learnt the codes and conventions of talent show production and created content for the public event. The event was attended by over fifty parents alongside students and staff – it was a massive success. The Deputy Mayor of Hillingdon was invited as a special guest too. We also handed out awards and certificates for achievement and attendance as well as had a range of musical performances and spoken word.
We worked with local schools, Barnhill Community High (Year 9), Greenford High School (Year 10) and Kingston Academy (Year 9) on careers fairs and workshops. This has given us an amazing opportunity to work directly with future students and inspire them for a career in media. We also attended the Transformation Trust’s event at Wembley Stadium and their careers fair which had over 11,000 pupils attend. We ran an onsite competition to win a backstage tour of Capital XTRA and had Capital XTRA promotional staff engage with future students.
Year 10s (and Year 12 English A Level students) have been on a few trips during June and July including the Rock Assembly Futures Fair at Wembley Stadium, the Science Museum, The Globe, the National History Museum and National Portrait Gallery.
Congratulations to our eight students whose aspiration, compassion, excellence, conduct and determination at school was recognised at the annual MET Awards ceremony.
Year 11 and Year 13 held their end of year celebration events including Year 11 Prom, Year 13 Prom and Year 13 Graduation. All events were a major success. The Year 13 Graduation ceremony included a special appearance from Capital’s Marvin Humes and the Year 11 Prom from Capital XTRA’s Robert Bruce. Both were really special touches that made the events stand out!
Our Annual new starter ‘Welcome’ events were held at Global and involved all new starters (and existing Year 11s moving into Year 12) meeting up together to experience a half day at Global HQ. We were joined by the teams from Capital, Capital XTRA, LBC and Radio X to help make the event even more special with a producer/presenter Q&A.
Global’s Live Session Producer, Chris Denham spent the morning with the Year 10 Audio pathway talking about roles in live studio sessions – a very inspirational session which got some of our most engaged students even more engaged.
Events Producers, Chris and Joey, worked very closely with the Year 13 Events Elective group to help bring their end of year events to life.
The Global Creative team, who write and produce Global's radio ads, worked closely with Rhys in Year 12 on his binaural sound FMP project.
We were joined by Marco Bertozzi, VP for Spotify in Europe, for a g:Talk with students about working in audio. He gave some top advice for our sixth form to get their next job
All students got to experience three live music events including Capital’s Summertime Ball at Wembley Stadium, Capital XTRA’s Music Potential Unleashed at KOKO and Rock Assembly at SSE Wembley Arena (Year 10 only)
Kaynan Mahdi's documentary has been accepted for the prestigious UAL Origins exhibition
Global Academy Ambassadors attended the filming of Britain’s Got Talent
Mia Collins (Year 12) was selected to be part of the UAL Insights Summer School and specialised in a journalism route
Ryan Williams (Year 13) has got into the final 15 for the YouTube Vlogstar competition – he will attend the final at BAFTA HQ at the end of July
Rhys Wilson was an Event Runner with the Global Events team at Capital Summertime Ball – and has been asked back for a Capital XTRA event as he made such a great impression
Our Summer work experience programme is in full swing with our Year 10 and 12 students getting hands on, relevant experience at top media companies over the Summer like Global, MTV, Channel 5, Barnet TV, M&C Saatchi and many more!
