Admissions

If you’re interested in studying at Global Academy, please apply for a place as soon as possible. There are no fees to be a Global Academy student and no tests to join.

If you have any questions about admissions, come along to our next taster event or email our Admissions Teams by contacting admissions@globalacademy.com

How old do you need to be to join Global Academy?

Students need to be in Year 9 to join Global Academy at the start of Year 10 - you will normally be 14 years old.

Students need to be in Year 11 to join Global Academy at the start of Year 12 - you will normally be 16 years old.

We do not accept admissions into Year 11 or Year 13 due to the specialist nature of the course. Students need to commence the course at the start of Year 10 or Year 12.

To begin the admissions journey, we recommend that you join us for one of our open events so that you are fully informed about the Academy and what makes us unique.

If you want to join after the event, you will need to complete an application form for Year 10 (aged 14) or Year 12 (aged 16). Once you've applied, you will be invited to a one to one meeting at the Academy to discuss your passion for Broadcast and Digital Media and have the opportunity to ask any questions you have to make sure this is the right place for you.

Global Academy Key Stage 5 Admissions FAQ

I’ve already done the first year of my A Levels at Year 12 in my current sixth form / college – can I join Year 13?

Students at the Global Academy study a unique vocational course validated by the University of Arts London in Creative Media Production and Technology. This course is made up of the Diploma and Extended Diploma. Students study for the Diploma in Year 12 and the Extended Diploma in Year 13. To achieve either qualification, students need to be able to have achieved evidence across a variety of units to be entered for the final module – which is called the Final Major Project. The grade received at the Final Major Project is the overall summative grade for the qualification. Students cannot be entered for the Final Major Project unless they have completed all units. Therefore, students are unable to join straight into Year 13 as they won’t have the required learning evidence achieved to get the Diploma within the first year of the qualification.

For some learners, there is the opportunity to ‘retake’ Year 12 and complete the two-year qualification – however all requests to join the Academy and ‘retake’ Year 12 (when the student is technically going into Year 13) are at the sole discretion of the Head of Media and the Principal, and will be discussed on a case by case basis. Students will need to demonstrate a passion for the creative industries and evidence that they will be able to work professionally and successfully within a year group where the majority of their peers will be a year younger.

I made a mistake and would like to join the Global Academy sixth form even though I’ve enrolled and started a course at another sixth form or college?
