Advertising Expert, Jason Mendes, visits Global Academy.

Award-winning Creative Advertiser, Jay Mendes, shares how he became the founder of Mamapool

This week’s G-Talk guest was Mamapool founder, Jason Mendes.  Jason has won numerous awards including Cannes, D&AD, The One Show, and The Webby awards for his creative mind and advertising talents and our students loved the opportunity to be able to get an insight into what it takes to own a Creative Advertising Agency.

During the G-Talk, Jason shared 25 years’ worth of knowledge with us in 45 minutes! This particularly focused on how powerful advertising is and how special we are as creatives. We were lucky enough to view some of the adverts, Jason, had produced for the likes of Coca Cola, Toyota, and Hitachi. Jason went on to explain how in order to be remembered, it is important that we work at the moment and think out of the box. Jason did just this with their advert for Toyota, which main focus was to make people aware of the dangers of driving with a phone. Using the ‘Hey Siri’ function through a radio advert, meant those who were on their phone whilst driving, had their phones turned to airplane made through this advertisement to highlight the importance of not using a phone when driving. This advert reached 15 million people using only organic traction. This showed how powerful our 2-3-minute marketing campaigns can be and allowed our students to think about how they would use this information in their next project. Jason also shared what it was like to work within the media industry and how to ensure that you are able to stay creative whilst sticking to your client’s brief.

Our students were able to ask questions regarding Jason’s past work, how to get started in the industry and what he wishes he knew at their age when starting out within the industry. Jason said

“Take notes, people give you inspiration, connect with humans.”

Having the opportunity to talk to Jason Mendes, helped to inspire our students and get them thinking about different advertising and marketing strategies they could come up with for their Final Major Project and beyond. Click here to see other adverts Mamapool has worked on.
