Global Academy students had the opportunity to attend a one-day workshop at Omnicom Media Group as part of the IPA’s Advertising Unlocked experience.

Year 12, 13 and 14 students from Global Academy had the opportunity to attend a one-day workshop at Omnicom Media Group as part of the IPA’s Advertising Unlocked experience. The workshop allowed students to meet senior professionals from various agencies within Omnicom Media Group UK and learn about their career journeys, as well as the early career opportunities available at the company, including PHD, Hearts and Science, Fuse, OMD and MG OMD.

Throughout the day, students were given the chance to work on a live brief with each of the different agencies and receive feedback from industry professionals. They also participated in networking activities and had the opportunity to speak first hand with colleagues from across the company.

The students found the workshop to be extremely informative and beneficial in building their knowledge of the media industry. Chaniya Francis Mahon (Year 13) said, “I enjoyed learning about different peoples roles and one of the roles is one I wanted to do which was great! We also met the CEO and I want to take on freelancing within social media marketing so seeing his view on things and his success was really cool.” Martin Pils (Year 13) commented, “The workshop was very informative and built up my knowledge about the media industry.”

The networking aspect of the workshop was also a highlight for many students. Geena Kaur Nothey (Year 13) said, “I enjoyed meeting new people and networking with current employees at Omnicom”. The panel discussions with industry experts provided valuable insight into the company and the different roles within it.

In addition to learning about the different job roles within the company and the various pathways that can lead to a career in media, the students also appreciated the opportunity to listen to professionals experiences. Sky Cover (Year 12) said, “listening to professionals’ experiences really opened my eyes to the wide range of jobs out there in media.”
