As part of our ongoing partnership with local company – IMG Studios – they hosted nearly 40 of our Sixth Form students for an exciting Insight Experience Day. Rosie Jones, in Year 12 explains what happened:
I had the opportunity to visit IMG Studios in Stockley Park on an eye-opening insight day.
Leading up to the insight day at IMG Studios, I had little knowledge about Sport in media and how IMG worked meaning that I had no expectation of how the day would proceed.
When we arrived, we were greeted by industry professionals who had prepared a jam-packed day covering all aspects of media in sport from – how EVS broadcast equipment works to tailoring your CV to get the best opportunities in IMG and across other jobs in sport. The programme for the day was planned so that we had set times for each guest and activity making the day run smoothly and efficiently making the most of our valuable time there.
The structure of the day worked perfectly enabling us to hear from all the departments working for Premier League Productions, giving us an insight into the variety of jobs in this media sector. Once we had pinpointed what area we were most keen to explore we had the chance to network with the individuals we had listened to earlier on in the day. This opportunity was invaluable as it meant we could make contacts in the industry and also understand their job a deeper level. The amazing employees at IMG were brilliant to talk to, offering great of advice and were kind enough to answer any questions we had about their jobs and how they got to those roles.
Overall, the day has made me feel much more confident to pursue a career in sport media. Without this experience I would still be unsure how to approach this sector of the media industry. The team at IMG were open to offer me advice on my specific aspirations and made me feel confident that I can reach these goals if I put my mind to it. I had an unforgettable day which will definitely stay with me as I make my first steps into the industry.
