Student Works with Ofcom

Amy Cook in Year 13 got the chance to understand what life is like at Ofcom, the UK’s media regulator.

Ofcom Work Experience

During the October Half Term – Amy Cook in Year 13 spent a week working with various departments at Ofcom to understand what life is like working for the company and to get a better experience of working life in the media industry.

Lots of Opportunities

The session provided a lot of exciting opportunities for Amy to really get experience of learning how things work at Ofcom. Alongside speaking to industry professionals, she worked on a group presentation with other young people who were also on the placement to effectively convey how people experience news differently.

When thinking about her favourite part of the experience she said “Every morning I had the opportunity to speak to my mentors on the programme. This gave me a real insight into the company and allowed me to ask any questions”.

“The week was great – I developed a lot of skills including Communication skills, goal setting, professional etiquette, project work and understanding how a business operates”.

Being Ready for a Career

Amy loved the experience and said “This has shown me the work the employees are involved in and has enabled me to understand the key skills needed to work in a company like this”.

Global Academy students get lots of opportunities to experience life in the industry to really help them kick start their career in the creative media industry.
