As part of our cultural capital programme which gives our students the chance to experience the best in creative thinking – many of our sixth formers got to experience a contemporary art exhibition and get to grips with Higher Education on a unique careers trip.

Our Year 12 Digital Design cohort spent the morning exploring what their future in Higher Education could look like with a unique behind the scenes tour of UAL’s London College of Communication (LCC) hosted by their student ambassadors. They visited a variety of workshops, technical rooms and design spaces with the college to get a feel of what is on offer at the UAL college after Sixth Form.

The experience at LCC brought to life the many possibilities that are on offer for our students within the creative industry and gave them a first hand experience of how they could continue studying design and creative subjects after Year 13.

Finally, students had the chance to see what happens during the UAL Insights Spring School  – which is an exclusive opportunity available to Global Academy, as a UAL partner, where Year 12 students get the freedom to try out different approaches to a range of creative subjects in new and exciting ways over the Easter Holidays.

The group then joined up with Year 13 students for a chance to attend the LUX: New Wave of Contemporary Art media exhibition where physical and virtual worlds converge at 180 Studios, 180 The Strand.

The immersive exhibition features an impressive 13 gargantuan installations that transform the physical confines of the brutalist space through technology, sensory stimulation, and colour spectrums.

‘The artists in LUX are working at the very cutting-edge of digital technologies, using AI, dimensional sound and optical illusion to create a new kind of artistic experiences that brings together traditional art and digital influences. It really stretched and challenged the imagination of our learners – which I know will allow them to create bolder and innovative digital art during their course”
