If you’re super creative and want to join a Sixth Form after your GCSEs to study media and kick start your career in the industry then you’re in the right place.

Join us at 16 to take our unique industry-focused Media Production qualification at Global Academy.

We offer a wide variety of industry-recognised qualifications which have been designed to provide the industry creatives of the future with the knowledge, skills, and understanding necessary to access and progress to further study and employment in the media sector.

It provides an opportunity for those who have an interest and passion in content production, digital design and advertising and creative entrepreneurship to explore, develop and test their creativity within a qualification structure which is stimulating and demanding and provides a supportive transition from general to more specialised study.

Whichever you choose, all our courses are highly hands-on, practical and industry-focused – meaning you get a head start to the next stage after the Sixth Form – whether that be Employment, Apprenticeship or Higher Education. Our courses follow a curriculum written with members from the Creative Industries to ensure it’s aligned to careers in Media. Classes will be split between practical project work and classroom study with sessions delivered by both teachers and industry professionals. At the end of the course, not only will you have a portfolio of work, a range of contacts and the practical skills to take into the workplace, you will earn UCAS points to take through to University.

What Will I Study?

The course is delivered in four unique routes designed for your ambitions in the industry:

 

For students with 5 x GCSEs at 4 or above:

  • Content Production
  • Digital Design Creative Practice and Advertising
  • Creative Business and Entrepreneurship

 

For students with 3 x GCSEs at 4 or above:

  • Creative Digital Media (one year course)

🧰 Whatever route you take to begin with –  you will be taught the basics of each pathway – we call this your ‘Media Toolbox’.

✨ After this – it’s time to get practical and you’ll get real life experience to work on projects with an industry-focused. You’ll get the chance to go through the whole production experience (research, planning, pre-production, production and post-production). During the lessons – you’ll spend time with our media staff who will guide you on how to use industry-standard equipment and software. We also work with real-life clients and industry partners – so you never know who will be seeing your work (and could possibly employ you in the future!).

👉 In your second year – you’ll get the chance to specialise your study to really hone your skills and craft as well as make sure you’re armed with all the knowledge needed to progress into the industry or further education when you leave. Finally, you’ll work on your Final Major Project. The Final Major Project is the culmination of your Global Academy training and showcases all the skills you have learned at Global.

☑️ Alongside studying your course – students will get the chance to take part in a wide variety of career and work experience opportunities with industry leading professionals and our own in house careers team. One minute you could be spending the day with the team at TikTok learning the craft behind creating digital content and the next you could be hearing from a producer from a BAFTA awarding film – we call it #OnlyAtGlobal.

📍 As well as that – there is a wide variety of in house clubs, classes and projects for Sixth Form students to be involved in such as Youths Choice, Film Club, Art Club and more.

Which route can I take?

  • Digital Design Creative Practice and Advertising Route 🎨

    If you love designing graphics, creating animations or producing advertising and branding campaigns – then this is the route for you.

    During your two years at Global Academy – you could cover the following skills and knowledge:

    Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator/After Effects
    Creative practice – visual arts illustration
    Social Media graphics and production
    Advertising and branding
    Design – for web/print
    Photography
    Research, planning, production
    Reflection and evaluation

    The type of projects which you’ll do during the course could include:

    Adobe Creative Cloud skills build
    Print-making and fine art practice
    Social media graphics and campaigns
    Campaign/advertising production
    Produce interactive media and online magazines
    Create branded content with a live industry brief
    Portfolio preparation

    What qualification will I get?

    Students taking this course will receive a UAL Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma in Creative Practice: Art, Design, and Communication qualification which is equivalent to 3 A Levels. The course offers up to 168 UCAS Points.

    The UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Practice: Art, Design, and Communication further develops a student’s knowledge of the design sectors of the creative industries, allowing them to explore and select a specialist practice focus, and develop skills and knowledge central to supporting and sustaining an individualised specialist creative career.

    What partners are involved in this course?

    You will work closely with our university partners including the University of the Arts: London College of Communication as well as some of London’s best creative and advertising agencies.

    Where could this course take me?

    This route is for students looking to pursue a specialist career in the creative industries. The qualification provides students with the necessary industry-relevant skills, knowledge, and understanding to access appropriate entry-level roles, training programmes or apprenticeships in the design, art or advertising sectors of the media or apply for progression to related higher education courses.

    What roles could this course lead to?

    The type of jobs that this course could lead to include VFX, Animation, Advertising Execs and Art/Design/Advertising Higher Ed courses such as Advertising, Animation, Fine Art, Graphic and Media Design, Games Design, Illustration, Graphic Branding and Identity.

  • Content Production Route 📲

    If you love making videos or podcasts, creating YouTube content or producing TikToks – then this is the route for you.

    During your two years at Global Academy – you could cover the following skills and knowledge:

    Social Media video and audio production
    Radio/Podcasting
    TV/YouTube
    Short-form content
    Video and audio editing
    Social platforms
    Script/Engaging Audiences
    Research, planning, production
    Reflection and evaluation

    The type of projects which you’ll do during the course could include:

    Making a podcast or radio show
    Edit a YouTube show/channel
    Creating content for our in house production company
    Making a web documentary
    Audio imaging and production
    Branded content for an advertiser
    Making a showreel or demo

    What qualification will I get?

    Students taking this course will receive a UAL Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production and Technology qualification which is equivalent to 3.5 A Levels. The course offers up to 168 UCAS Points.

    The UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production and Technology has been designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills and understanding necessary to access and progress to degree-level study and employment in the media production sector.

    What partners are involved in this course?

    You will work closely with our media partners such as Global, Sky and TikTok as well as some of London’s best independent production companies as well as the University of Arts: London College of Communication.

    Where could this course take me?

    This route is for students looking to pursue a specialist career in the creative industries. The qualification provides students with the necessary industry-relevant skills, knowledge, and understanding to access appropriate entry-level roles, training programmes or apprenticeships in the media production sectors of the media or apply for progression to related higher education courses.

    Where roles could this course lead to?

    The type of jobs that this course could lead to include Broadcast Assistants, Producers, Editors, Production Co-Ordinators or Media Production Higher Ed courses such as Media Communications, Content Production, Radio and TV Production, Television and Live Events Production, Sound Arts, Screen Studies, Journalism

  • Creative Business and Entrepreneurship Route 👩‍💻

    If you fancy yourself as the next Alan Sugar, are a dab hand with a clipboard and love building new ideas – then this is the route for you.

    During your two years at Global Academy – you could cover the following skills and knowledge:

    Advertising, Marketing and Promotion
    Planning for a Career
    Industry Trends
    Creating and Publishing Digital Content
    Events Management
    Business Planning
    PR and Publicity

    The type of projects which you’ll do during the course could include:

    Managing a live event
    A career plan
    A business pitch and plan
    Social media strategy
    Online business proposal

    What qualification will I get?

    Students taking this course will receive a RSL Level 3 Extended Diploma for Creative Digital Media which is equivalent to 3.5 A Levels. The course offers up to 168 UCAS Points.

    What partners are involved in this course?

    You will work closely with our industry partners such as Global, Sky, Dentsu Media, Signature Pictures Academy as well as some of London’s major advertising and marketing agencies as well as the University of Arts: London College of Communication.

    Where could this course take me?

    This route is for students looking to pursue setting up their own creative industry business. The qualification provides students with the necessary industry-relevant skills, knowledge, and understanding to access funding and support for setting up their own creative enterprise as well as appropriate entry-level roles, training programmes or apprenticeships in the media business sectors of the media or apply for progression to related higher education courses.

    Where roles could this course lead to?

    The type of jobs that this course could lead to include Freelancer, Business Owner, Marketing Assistant, Product Owner.

  • Level 2 Creative Digital Media Pathway (one year) 🤳

    The Level 2 Creative Digital Media Pathway offers an alternative one year course to students who don’t receive 5 GCSEs and require a foundation year before joining the Global Academy Sixth Form.

    During your one year at Global Academy – you could cover the following skills and knowledge:

    Interactive Digital Media Techniques
    This unit aims to promote the learner’s practical understanding of the key elements of interactive digital media production and the wide range of potential platforms and formats available to the business user and consumer

    Podcast Production
    The aim of this unit is to introduce the concept of podcast production, to facilitate an exploration of hosting techniques and to generate skills in developing content and themes.

    Vlog Production
    This unit aims to develop learners’ awareness of the current key concepts, tools and formats surrounding creating and sustaining a vlog, including exploring production techniques, marketing and promoting the vlog and developing an audience.

    Students will also develop knowledge in key media production techniques including Research, Planning, Reflection and Evaluation

    What qualification will I get?

    Students taking this course will receive a Level 2 Diploma in Creative Digital Media accredited by RSL. RSL’s Creative Digital Media qualifications prepare learners for their entry into this world and arm them with the knowledge and skills to successfully navigate this exciting and ever-evolving industry.

    You will work closely with our media partners such as Global, Sky and TikTok as well as some of London’s best independent production companies as well as the University of Arts: London College of Communication.

    Where could this course take me?

    This route is for students looking to start a specialist career in the creative industries. The qualification provides students with the necessary industry-relevant skills, knowledge, and understanding to access appropriate entry-level roles, training programmes or apprenticeships in the media production sectors of the media or apply for progression to a Level 3 qualification.

What else happens in Global Academy Sixth Form? 🤷‍♀️

Team Meet / G Talk

Each week, Year 12 and Year 13 will attend a guest workshop led by someone in the industry – previous guests have included the CEO of Sky, the Director of D&AD creative, BBC, Channel 4, Global and many more. You never know which guest will walk through the door each week!

As well as that, once a month, we’ll spend some time together to learn about issues that affect us as young citizens about to enter the world of work with our Global Cultural Learning Programme.

Social Media

Each week, you’ll spend one hour of your timetable – whatever route you pick – learning the tools of the trade to help amplify and develop your social media presence in our weekly social media masterclass. You’ll get your head around building your online presence, developing and understanding analytics as well as understanding a content strategy.

G:Prepare

Each week, you’ll spend one hour of your timetable in a dedicated workshop to help develop your media industry employability skills in a session delivered by industry experts from Resource Productions. They will ensure you have all the skills, knowledge and behaviours to land your first job in the industry once you leave the Academy.

You’ll also get access to Unifrog software for FREE during your time here at Global Academy which offers a plethora of careers advice and guidance at the touch of the button, as well as access to an industry mentor from Global during Year 12.

Enrichment, Work Experience and Trips

All students will get access to work on real-life client projects, undergo work experience at some of the top media companies and get to meet industry leaders in workshops and insight days.

To top that off, there are plenty of chances to develop your content and design skills by being involved in the Global Academy’s in house content production company – Youths Choice and produce creative work for the brand.

Finally, there’s a wide range of after school clubs and classes and enrichment opportunities including our annual trip to Hollywood in Year 13

FREE Adobe Software

All students in Global Academy Sixth Form get access both on campus and home-use to the Adobe Creative Cloud software packages including Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Audition and Illustrator to ensure work completed can be to a high standard. The Academy will give you access to this software on your personal devices during your time in the Sixth Form (valued at £600 per year).

16 to 19 Tuition Fund

The 16 to 19 tuition fund is £96 million of one-off funding for the 2021 to 2022 academic year. It is ring fenced funding for schools, colleges and all other 16 to 19 providers like Global Academy to mitigate the disruption to learning arising from COVID-19.

This funding will be used to provide personalised support through small group sessions for groups of students who have not achieved grade 5 or above in GCSE maths and/or English by age 16.

As part of Global Academy’s specialism in media – alongside our partners Resource Productions, we will focus on supporting learners with the development of succeeding in the creative media industry and where learning has been disrupted
