Our course is designed to expand your contact base, develop entrepreneurial skills, and launch your own creative enterprise or freelance services. Partnering with industry leaders like Canon, Soho House, Resource Productions, and more, we offer real-life experiences and tailored classroom training to prepare young creatives for the business world.

With our course, you can skip the traditional university route and gain high-quality, tuition-free training to start your journey in the creative industry. Our intention is to provide you with the opportunity to fast-track into employment in the creative industries, and the course may also support progression into higher education.

Meet Jay

We’re delighted to welcome Jay Harris from Disruptive Talent Group as the Course Lead for our Year 14 programme. Jay is the founder, MD and Lead Creative Strategist at DTG. For the best part of 20 years, he has been coaching and developing talent for some of the leading media brands in the UK.

He has worked work talent from across BBC, Global, ITV, YouTube and Twitch to name but a few. His executive producer credits include award-winning podcast series,  six market-leading radio shows and over 35 presenters coached and produced.

Course Fees

This course is FREE for anyone under 19 years old when the course begins on September 1st 2023, a limited number of bursaries are available for exceptional applicants who will be 19+ when the course starts.

Additionally, students who’re 19 or under are applicable for additional travel bursary /financial support depending on their circumstances (eg. received Free School Meals or Sixth Form Bursary.

The course fee for 19+ students is £4,500 – students are able to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan from the government.

Kickstart Your Career at Global Academy

Looking to develop your career as a creative professional? At Global Academy, we offer the UAL Awarding Body Level 4 Professional Diploma in Creative Enterprise at our unique facilities and creative environment in West London.

This one-year fast-track course has been designed to provide you with the skills, knowledge, and understanding necessary to develop your career in the creative industries. You’ll collaborate with creatives from different disciplines and have the opportunity to develop your portfolio, build a base of clients, and learn the business fundamentals needed to kickstart your career in your chosen creative field.

As a student of our course, you’ll have the opportunity to work directly with our employer partners, including Global – one of the world’s leading media and entertainment groups. Global is Europe’s largest radio company and home to household brands like Capital, Heart, and Radio X, as well as the leading outdoor media company in the UK and one of the largest in Europe. You’ll also work with other industry partners during the year-long course.

This qualification is suitable for those interested in starting up their own projects or company, or working in a freelance capacity and wishing to explore and extend their creative practice via a full-time creative immersive learning experience. The Year 14 programme has been designed to provide students with the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to develop their careers as creative professionals. The qualification can be used as a starting point if you have identified a specific project that you wish to work on. You can explore the basis of entrepreneurial activity by developing essential business and management skills in order to identify and respond to business opportunities in the creative sector.

  • What are the Entry Requirements?

    In order to be considered for the course we are looking for the following criteria:

    • Merit/C or above in relevant courses at sixth form

    • Attendance 90% and above in Sixth Form

    • Aged 18 when the course starts

    • Demonstrate examples of the skills listed above plus highest standards of industry professionalism

    • Demonstrate previous experience within your preferred specialism (this could be either work experience, professional experience or being involved in extra curricular projects at Global Academy or your sixth form college – eg. Youths Choice).

  • What is the course Teaching Delivery like?

    The learning experience on this course is primarily project-based, with a range of activities including line management meetings, production meetings, workshops, and independent study. As part of their coursework portfolio, students will also act as intern production assistants across the Academy, gaining valuable experience in a practical setting. Depending on availability, students may also have the opportunity to undertake industry placements or work experience.

    The minimum time commitment for this course is 15 hours per week, with students expected to attend the Academy for three days each week. We encourage students to use the remaining two days for gaining industry-relevant work experience.

    Please note that there is some flexibility in learning hours, with occasional evening and weekend sessions for shoots, productions, exhibitions, or conferences.

  • What skills are needed to join Year 14?

    The course is set to get you industry ready – however, we require students to have the following skills (or be prepared to learn them) to get the best out of the course:

    • A business idea or concept for your freelance basis or personal brand
    • Proven problem-solving skills
    • Organisation, focus and creativity
    • Ability to communicate with people at all levels in a professional and mature manner
    • Self-motivated with an internal drive to deliver great work and facilitate others
    • Attention to detail and the ability to work well under pressure
    • Good sense of project management
    • Abilities with technical equipment, studios and software
    • The ability to show initiative
    • Passion for creative entrepreneurship/media production/events/marketing

  • Production Office

    Year 14 students will be based in their own ‘Production Office’ on the third floor of the Academy and will have weekly line management meetings with their mentor who will oversee the course and project delivery.

    Year 14 students will work with other members of staff and industry professionals as required as part of their individual projects which they’re working on.

  • Course Timeline

    The UAL Level 4 Professional Diploma in Creative Enterprise  will run at Global Academy from September – May.

    September – October
    Unit 1: The Creative Entrepreneur

    This unit introduces the student to the requisite enterprise skills that are necessary to kickstart a creative business venture.

    October – January
    Unit 2: The Creative Practitioner

    This unit will provide the student with the opportunity to define their artistic ambitions by providing the necessary time and space to research and develop their creative ideas. Students will position and contextualise their creative concept within a distinctive area of contemporary practice and will conduct case studies in order to identify and distinguish market competitors directly operating within their chosen field.

    January – May
    Unit 3: The Creative Enterprise development project

    This unit requires the student to develop, formalise and present a sustainable creative enterprise business plan. Students will take control of their own professional development by independently initiating a feasibility study, which will support and inform an in-depth creative enterprise business plan. The business plan will outline all the budgetary, legal, branding, marketing and health and safety requirements while also contextualising the students’ own creative practice within the wider creative industries.

    Units 1 and 2 can be awarded a grade of Pass only. Unit 3 can be awarded a grade of Pass, Merit or Distinction. The overall grade is determined by the student’s achievement in Unit 3.
