Global Academy teamed up with Popbuzz and Global to create a unique learning experience for students to understand more about creating content for social-first audiences by taking part in a live content brief before showcasing work to Global managers in their Head Office.
Popbuzz is the online home of pop culture, music & everything that matters to the internet generation. The online site and social media network, with 120m monthly reach – set Global Academy Year 12 students the task of creating a video as part of their ‘Popbuzz Guide to’ series anchored on landing a coveted career in the media.
The task allowed students to develop more in-depth knowledge and sophisticated understanding of a specific creative media production activity and the means by which the audience might be reached and addressed. The unique opportunity provided a platform for students to demonstrate an understanding of Popbuzz’s Gen Z audience and the importance of creating content that resonates with that target audience – something vital for all content creators in the industry today.
Students were set the brief by Popbuzz Managing Editor – Woodrow Whyte to create a ‘Popbuzz Guide’ that matched the brands’ unique humour, knowledge and finesse that speaks to its audience on their level.
As well as learning about the brands’ editorial strategy – students also learnt about video production and editing techniques with a series of workshops across June and July.
A selection of pieces were chosen to be showcased in an exclusive event at Global HQ with Popbuzz Managing Editor – Woodrow Whyte and Steve Wilson-Beales, Head of Editorial for all Global’s brands.
I had the great honour of attending a Global Academy end of term project presentation. There were some really brilliant ideas 💡 and lots of technical wizardry happening 🧙♂️ – so look out MEDIA here’s more talent coming at you very soon! 🎉 ⭐️ 🕺🏻
