At Global Academy, we believe in the significance of student leadership in schools. We recognise the positive impact it can have on creating a thriving school culture and helping to develop responsible, engaged citizens. Our unique approach to student leadership is demonstrated through our student-led content brand called ‘Youth’s Choice’ and ‘The Loop’ – as well as our EDI (Equality, Diversity and Inclusion) Team which empowers students to express their ideas and opinions through broadcast and content creation.
‘Youth’s Choice’ and ‘The Loop’ provide a platform for students to create and share content that is important to them, fostering a sense of community and collaboration. It is a powerful way to cultivate their leadership potential and develop communication skills, all while building their self-confidence and self-esteem. We believe that by empowering students to take ownership of their learning and creating content that speaks to their peers and the wider community, we are helping to prepare them for success in their future endeavors.
The Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) team plays a pivotal role in our school community. Committed to fostering a culture of equity and inclusivity, this team is responsible for organizing and overseeing key events that celebrate British values, such as Black History Month, Pride, and Diwali. Beyond event management, the EDI team collaborates on whole school projects and initiatives, working to ensure that our institution is a place where every individual feels respected, valued, and included. Their guidance and expertise are invaluable in assisting senior leadership in charting a course toward a fully equitable, diverse, and inclusive school and sixth form, where diversity is not just acknowledged but celebrated as a strength, and where every student can thrive regardless of their background or identity.
This approach to student leadership also demonstrates Global Academy’s commitment to teaching British Values. By providing students with a platform to express their ideas and opinions, we encourage them to participate in democracy and to understand the importance of free speech. Through collaboration and teamwork, students also develop a sense of mutual respect and tolerance, which are fundamental values of a cohesive and inclusive society.
