Global Academy enables all students to achieve their full potential. We foster their ambition and encourage them to work hard and aim high. We expect students to achieve high standards of progress in mainstream school subjects, particularly English, Maths and Science, as well as in our vocational specialism of broadcast and digital media.

Our curriculum is crafted to offer an exceptional blend of academic focus, technical proficiency, and the holistic development of professional skills and attributes that gets young people ready for long lasting careers in the creative media industry.

The Global Academy curriculum is focused in:

Academic Foundations: Our four-year curriculum ensures that students receive an excellent academic education that equips them with essential knowledge and critical thinking skills. This strong academic foundation empowers them to excel in their chosen creative disciplines.

Our pedagogical approach – “GLOBAL 6”  – is built upon six core principles of teaching and learning at Global Academy:

1. Goals for All
2. Linking Knowledge Across Lessons
3. Opportunities for All
4. Behavior for Learning
5. Assessment for Learning
6. Love for Learning.

Cutting-Edge Technical Education: In the fast-paced landscape of the creative industry, technical skill and knowledge are paramount. Our creative curriculum places a significant emphasis on providing students with hands-on experience and expertise in world class facilities with the latest tools and technologies relevant to their creative interests. This ensures that they are well-prepared to tackle real-world challenges in the broadcast and creative industry.

Professional Skills Development: We recognise that success in the creative industry extends beyond technical competence, we are dedicated to developing our student’s professional skills and attributes. Our curriculum offers opportunities for students to enhance teamwork, communication, adaptability, leadership, and problem-solving abilities, ensuring they are ready to thrive in a professional environment.

By offering a curriculum that integrates academic foundations, technical proficiency, and professional skill development, Global Academy empowers our students as well-rounded professionals who are fully prepared for the exciting and ever-evolving world of work in the creative industry.

The curriculum at Global Academy is designed to prepare all students, including those facing disadvantages and special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) for success in the dynamic creative industry. Recognising that this sector demands not only creativity but also a solid foundation of knowledge and skills, our curriculum imparts both essential subject-specific expertise and an understanding of how chosen disciplines operate within the industry – as well as a wider core academic grounding in Key Stage 4.

Global Academy provides a supportive environment for learning. We believe that happy, confident students achieve more. Creativity is at the heart of everything we do. We encourage students to collaborate and work together in teams to develop the broader skills they will need to succeed in the 21st century.

Remaining industry-relevant is our commitment, as we continuously update the curriculum to mirror the latest trends and technologies, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared to navigate the ever-changing creative landscape via our  Industry Board.

Additionally, we offer real-world engagement opportunities with industry professionals, hands-on projects, and work experience to enrich our students’ skill sets and provide first-hand experience in the creative field.

Finally, our curriculum approach instills entrepreneurial knowledge – empowering students to excel as both creatives and leaders in the industry.

The Global Academy curriculum across Key Stage 4 and 5 has been designed to specifically prepare our students for long lasting careers in the creative industry.

All of our teachers work in partnership with students in a business-like workplace, with high expectations of all, and with employer partners. Global Academy staff are trained to ensure that students know more and remember more of the curriculum to become experts themselves. They employ a teaching style that encourages understanding and engagement that is relevant to the creative industry. Regular checks for understanding help identify misunderstandings, enabling adaptable teaching approaches – for example, through hinge questions.

The technical media facilities at the Global Academy are world-class, and our students benefit from our close links to the industry and further education. The vocational curriculum is developed in close partnership with industry and students learn from current, industry-quality briefs, receiving feedback on their work from people who already do the jobs they are aiming for. Students participate in regular and relevant industry visits.

Assessment is not just a formality but a strategic tool used to gauge understanding, inform teaching strategies, and encourage fluency in key concepts, ensuring students are ready to navigate the dynamic and competitive creative industry.

We focus on the knowledge and concepts students need, underlining the importance of feedback, retrieval practice, and ongoing assessment in preparing young people for thriving careers in the creative field. Global Academy is coherently sequenced across a 4-year plan for each subject and mapped cross-curricular.

Global Academy is designed to prepare students towards success in the next stages of their education or employment within the creative industry.

Over the course of their four years with us, knowledge is not only imparted but also strategically built upon, forming a strong foundation for their future in the creative industry.

Students leave the Global Academy with the confidence and the technical and creative skills to proceed to further education or move directly into jobs in the creative industries. Almost 2 million people in the UK work in the creative industries, with employment in the sector growing at four times the rate of the UK workforce as a whole. Our expectation is that every single one of our students will reach high quality destinations when they leave us.

Employers across the industry recognise the Global Academy as a centre of excellence for media. Our students will have the skills to become future leaders of the creative industries and inspire the next generation. Our students leave Global Academy with a core academic base as well as the technical skills, knowledge and behaviours for long lasting careers in the creative industry – of which on average 90% of our graduates go into employment or further training within the creative industries.
