BFI Showcase Global Academy Students Work

Global Academy was invited to showcase their final major projects at BFI on 14th July 2022 to the likes of SKY, Lord Baker Dearing, and 8 other UTCs. Hosted by Capitals, Niall Grey, we watched as the UTCs came together, showcased their work, and showed us what it is like to be part of a fantastic community.

Starting their day at 9 am, students met the industry leaders at BFI, Southbank where they were able to have a run-through of their showcase and practice their speeches. The speakers and their guests were then invited to attend a lunch where employers were able to network with the students to understand their current achievements and goals for the future. Shortly after we were then invited into the Blue theatre where the showcases began. A warm welcome was given to us by Lord Baker Dearing, founder of Baker Dearing Education, which introduced the UK to UTC’s providing younger people with a practical way of learning and bridging the gap between students and employers. Soon after Skys, Head of Young People, Nishy lall gave us an inspiring insight into what her job has been like working with the future generation and advice on how to be successful within the industry.

Then the showcases began. These ranged from Horror short films, Documentaries, Animation, and more. With the range of talent we have at Global Academy our showreel was filled with a variety of work to exhibit. We had Podcasts, App creation, short films, radio shows, and friends of the earth awareness campaigns.  We heard from current year 12 and 13 students who discussed their work with us and explained to the other UTCs and industry partners what it means to be a Globaller and how being part of the academy has helped them move forward to their next steps in the industry including securing apprenticeships at Global.

The showcase was an amazing opportunity to be able to celebrate the success and brilliance a UTC can bring to a young person’s educational career and the professional content they are able to create. A huge thank you to BFI and Niall Grey for hosting the event and to Baker Dearing Education for joining us together to celebrate the amazing work of our students.
