Everybody's Talking About Jamie Screening with Pride @ Global

A group of Global Academy students attending a special film screening at Global HQ

A handful of Global Academy students were invited to a rooftop screening of the new film ‘Everybody’s Talking About Jamie’ – the film version of the popular West End musical hosted by Global’s employee LGBT+ network – pride@global. The movie night, held on the rooftop of Global’s office in Leicester Square – was filled with popcorn, sweets, music and more importantly an opportunity to network with members from the  Pride@Global employee network group and the Global Academy LGBTQ+ community.

Everybody’s Talking About Jamie is a brilliant coming-of-age film inspired by the television documentary Jamie: Drag Queen at 16, a true story. The film follows a 16-year-old teenager as he overcomes prejudice, beats the bullies, and steps out of the darkness to become a drag queen.

Year 12 pupil Grace Monger attended the event and wrote this short article about the experience:

On Wednesday 22nd , I was invited among my peers to the Global HQ for a private screening of ‘Everybody’s talking about Jamie’ – A movie about a teen finding confidence in himself to become a gay drag queen and the struggles he faces in his life because of this. I got to meet and network with a range people who work at Global, which was interesting as not everyone worked in the creative side and some people worked in the business side or the safety side. I also got to talk to a few of them about their journey in the LGBT community, as a lot of people, much like Jamie, have faced homophobia from friends, family and even strangers and have struggled through life just to be themselves. The movie itself was fast-paced, exciting and a feel-good movie. There was a lot of singing as it is a musical and it was uplifting and funny. I found the movie to be touching and it told a story that I felt had not been told before. I also liked how it mentioned the AIDS epidemic and told a story that was true for so many gay men in the 80’s. Overall, the movie was great and the whole evening was a good experience that I am grateful to have been chosen for.
