While Alicia Keys and Tom Grennan were rocking the Capital FM stage, behind the scenes, Global Academy students were the ones stirring up real magic! These students snagged the golden chance to work backstage at the UK’s Biggest Christmas Party – Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball, taking on roles in commercial, video production, and event management. From backing up the video team to handling vital commercial tasks and nailing event logistics, their journey spanned event execution, broadcast management, working in OB trucks, and video production.
Their on-ground experience went beyond just witnessing a live event; it extended to reaching millions worldwide through TikTok, Global Player, and an ITV highlights show.
Some of the world’s biggest stars joined the event at the O2 across the weekend. Alicia Keys, Tom Grennan, Busted, Tate McRae, Becky Hill, ArrDee, Leigh-Anne, Nathan Dawe, and Jax Jones played night one whilst Take That, Alicia Keys, RAYE, S Club, Zara Larsson, Rudimental, Rita Ora, Joel Corry, and Jazzy rocked the O2 on the second nigh. However, it wasn’t all about the world’s biggest hit music stars like Take That stealing the limelight … we were super proud to share that Global Academy alumni were right there, playing their parts as project managers, radio producers, and video teams. This showcased the Academy’s dedication to nurturing pros ready to sparkle in the entertainment industry.
Darcus Beese, a Year 13 student said:
“What a weekend it has been, there’s not much I can say without making you jealous if you missed it, it was brilliant! I had the pleasure of working in the OB truck ensuring a smooth and enjoyable playout of the event on the Global Player app and TikTok – but it really was an immense learning experience and I had a blast :)”
The resounding verdict from these students wasn’t just about the glitz and glamour but the substance of an immersive, hands-on education and work experience at such a major music event; and just one of the many opportunities that our students get to kickstart their career in the creative industry.
