Graduating Year 13 students from the Global Academy – a unique school and Sixth Form in West London that prepares young people for a career in the broadcast and media industry – are celebrating recording breaking exam results and getting set to begin their careers at leading media employers including Global, News UK, BBC, Envy Post Production, Bloomberg, IMG Studios, The Royal Opera House, Trip Advisor, Fuse Sport and Entertainment and The Fellas Studios.

Fifteen students are continuing their studies with Global Academy’s groundbreaking post 18 course where students work closely with broadcast industry professionals across nine months to achieve a Level 4 Professional Diploma in Creative Enterprise and complete a creative industry focused business incubator development programme.

Twelve graduating students will also be joining Global, the media & entertainment group in apprenticeship, contract and freelance roles that span radio programming, digital, video, sound design, engineering, marketing and events.

Jonty Archibald, Principal at Global Academy said:

I couldn’t be prouder of our students! It’s fantastic to see their hard work, passion and skill recognised with job offers from some of the UK’s top media and creative companies. We have no doubt that their energy and talent will bring something truly special to these companies.

Having worked closely with industry partners has also positively impacted our sixth form results with 47% of students receiving top Distinction grade – equivalent to 3 A*s at A level (168 UCAS points) for their UAL qualification versus the national average of 15% for the UAL creative qualification.

I’m also excited to see many students join leading creative higher education institutions and programmes including our own creative entrepreneurship course to support those wanting to become freelancers.

As well as landing employment and apprenticeships – students have also secured university places at leading creative institutions including the London College of Communication, Royal Holloway, The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, Goldsmiths University, Escape Studios and Ravensbourne University London.

Gemma Nash (18 years old, from Surrey) has secured a Broadcast Producer apprenticeship with Capital FM having developed experience on the Academy’s own radio station as well as working closely with Capital’s production teams during work experience on the course. Gemma’s flagship career opportunity is a testament to her two-hour daily commute to Global Academy which she started as a Year 10 student in 2019.

Gemma said “Radio has always been a passion of mine, and I can’t wait to get started at Capital. Being part of Global Academy for the past four years has really prepared me for an exciting career in media and I can’t wait to take my skills I have learnt to a higher level”.

Yaman Mohammed (18 years old, from Wembley) has secured a year-long apprenticeship in the digital production team at LBC – turning down offers from multiple other broadcasters and universities. Yaman’s passion for journalism during his studies saw him working as part of a team which created a news format across radio, YouTube and social media aimed at young audience that recently won the Best Speech programming at the Young Audio Awards.

Yaman said “I was unsure about moving to Global Academy at first as I was very happy focusing on a pure A Level route – however, it was one of the best decisions I made. The connections and experiences I have got whilst at the college were second to none and have landed me in my dream role at LBC.”

Ije Ejoh (18 years old, from Forest Hill) will join eleven other peers at Global in September. She’s been offered the role of a Brand Marketing Apprentice working across the UK’s most loved radio brands. During her time at Global Academy – Ije led the launch and development of the Academy’s TikTok channel and focused her coursework towards working on marketing campaigns and pitches – presenting to clients like Co-op, Canon and more.

Ije said “Global Academy allowed me to discover that marketing was my passion by getting lots of work experience and taking part in hands-on practical tasks with employers. I can’t wait to continue developing my skills further on exciting campaigns at Global and seeing my work up on a billboard, website or a social media feed soon!”
