Global Academy Secure Silver and Bronze at Student Radio Awards

Global Academy’s student radio station, Youths Choice – picked up a Bronze and Silver award in the Student Radio Awards as well as a nomination for Best Presenter.

Global Academy’s very own in-house radio station – Youths Choice –  run by our students, picked up a Bronze and Silver award in the Student Radio Awards as well as a nomination for Best Presenter.

There were celebrations all round as Global Academy students joined other college and university students round around the UK in a celebration of audio and radio at the annual Student Radio Awards – held at Indigo at the O2 on Wednesday 10th November 2021. This glamour and star studded event which was attended by hundreds of student radio guests also celebrated 30 years of the SRA, as the organisation was first founded back in November 1991.

The night was hosted by Aimee Vivian from Capital and Dean McCullough from BBC Radio 1. There was also more celebrity guests involved with Capital’s  Will Manning and BBC Radio 1’s Sam Macgregor and Danni Diston asroaming reports in the audience adding the to entertainment.  The night was topped off in style with Charlie Powell and Jess Bays from Capital Dance playing DJ sets to end the night.

Global Academy’s Youth Choice secured THREE nominations:

The Diversity, Equality & Inclusion Award – This award recognises an individual, team, show or station who are initiating & leading actions to remove barriers, improve the student radio experience & create an open and welcoming environment.

Best Station Sound Award- This award places a particular emphasis on the quality and technicality of imaging and station sound.

Best Presenter Award for Year 12 pupil Zeina Addadahine

There was. celebrations all around as we picked up a BRONZE award for Best Station Sound and SILVER award for the Diversity, Equality and Inclusion Award. A really special night and a real testament to the work of our students competing against much more established university radio services especially our nominated presenter, Zeina Addadahine and Sam Garrett in Year 12 who led our on Station Sound entry.
