Global Academy Students Take Part in Advertising Pitch with Co-Op and Dentsu UK

Global Academy partnered with Dentsu UK advertising agency and their flagship schools programme, The Code to challenge students on a live advertising brief with convenience retailer Co-op

The Rise Up Creative Challenge tasked Global Academy students to develop a creative digital advertising campaign in response to a real Co-Op on three areas of focus for the Co-op: Community, Healthy Living and A Better World.

Our students worked on a variety of creative responses from student meal ideas, mental health campaigns and charity pop up shops.

At the end of the process – students presented their campaigns to a team of judges that includes: Dentsu UK’s chief executive of creative James Morris and Co-op customer director Ali Jones.

Students are now looking to work with Dentsu, Co-Op and Global to bring their ideas to life across audio, digital and outdoor.

Emma, Callum and Marina focused the idea on mental health and encouraged young people to #BreakTheSilence with a cross platform solution involving Snapchat, TikTok and Instagram as well as outdoor, radio and in shop takeovers that encouraged people to ‘Say Hello to Yellow’ to support Young Minds.

Steph, David, Chloe and Sofia focused on the idea of creating a Pop Up charity shop using Co-Op products to help feed those who need it most.

Chloe Sibley in Year 12 tells us more:

I got to take part in a competition where my group had to pitch our idea to the Co-Op and Dentsu for an initiative that would help the community. We came up with the Co-Op Pop-Up, the initiative where foods sold in Co-Op shops that would normally go to waste but are still edible and in date would be sold at discounted prices to students in need of quick and convenient meals. All profits made from this initiative would go to local charities. We made it to the finals and had to record an elevator pitch to present during the finals video call. We got to meet industry professionals, see other people’s amazing work and get feedback on what we did.

I got to learn so much about the industry and what is involved in making a pitch from the research to the production to the final presentation. I was able to develop my professional skills and learn new skills, such as how to use some photoshop tools and how to lay out a pitch and how to think of answers to questions on the spot.

I think that the best part was the finals video call. I got to see other students pitches and their ideas and it was amazing and inspiring, they were so creative, one of finalists’ pitches was even based on a card game. I was able to gain insights into the industry that you cannot get from a classroom. I got to meet industry professionals and learn about what they do which was amazing. I got to see the industry for what it is and I feel like I would be able to use what I have learned in the future to kick start my career.
