Global Inspire: The mentoring programme comes to an end

This week at Global Academy, we had another celebration. What better way to support our students for their hard work and ambitious attitudes than to celebrate! After many months of networking, learning and growing, the Global Mentorship Programme came to an end. This programme has been around Global Academy for many years and we can see the positive impact it leaves on our students. Global Inspire is a programme where around 30 lucky Year 12 students get to team up with an industry expert from Global. No matter what department the mentor is in, they’ll have the connections, skills and advice needed to help our students feel even more confident to start their career. Once the student is partnered up with the mentor, they take it upon themselves to have regular catch ups, ask for support when needed and grow their industry connections.

Agenda

The day commenced with mentors and mentees convening to tackle a significant marketing task. Aimee Barby, Global’s Head of Talent Development, took center stage to reveal the task: “Craft a co-branded product, event, or experience for one of Global’s brands.” The objective was clear: select a Global brand, identify the ideal brand partner, and justify the choice. Before participants deliberated on their product, event, or experience, they were provided with three pivotal questions to ensure a comprehensive marketing strategy: How will you drive sales? What advertising platforms will you utilise? And when will the campaign launch? Divided into five groups, each accompanied by mentors, they had a mere two hours until presenting their ideas to the other teams and Global’s panel.

 

As the clock ticked down, the atmosphere buzzed with creative energy as students worked together, brainstorming ideas and sharing insights. Each team member brought their unique perspective to the table, sparking lively discussions and challenging each other to think outside the box. Through this collaborative process, they not only honed their individual creativity but also strengthened their teamwork skills. As they bounced ideas off one another, they listened actively, and embraced the variety of viewpoints, they discovered the power of collaboration in turning briefs into campaigns. This activity was more than just a marketing task; it was a lesson in the value of teamwork and collective innovation.

High-energy collaborations to sophisticated partnerships

With an eye for detail, the students delved into the essence of each of Global’s radio brands, peeling back the layers to uncover their distinct target audiences and unique selling points. From the pop tunes of Capital to the timeless classics on Smooth Radio, they left no stone unturned in their quest for understanding. They engaged in spirited debates, exploring potential brand partnerships that would seamlessly align with each radio station’s identity. Whether it was envisioning a high-energy collaboration for Capital Dance or a sophisticated partnership for Classic FM, the students’ brainstorming sessions were brimming with enthusiasm and creativity. By delving into each brand and envisioning ideal allies, they demonstrated not only their marketing skills but also their ability to think strategically.

Pitching Marketing Campaigns

 

     

With a mix of nerves and excitement, the students stepped up to the stage, ready to pitch their innovative ideas to both their peers and the Industry Panel. With passion and conviction, they articulated their vision for the co-branded product, event, or experience they had crafted throughout the day. They shared the inspiration behind their concepts and how they had carefully selected their collaborating brands. As they delved into the potential profits for both Global and their collaborating brands, the students demonstrated not only their strategic thinking but also their business mindsets. Throughout the presentations, the panel, consisting of Dan, Megan, Claudia, and Ellie, attentively listened, jotting down notes and peppering the students with thought-provoking questions. Their inquiries challenged the students to think even harder, encouraging them to dive deeper into their strategies and refine their concepts further. It was a dynamic exchange of ideas and insights, showcasing the students’ creativity and resilience in the face of scrutiny. Want to have a look at the students presentations? Look no further! As the Industry Panel excused themselves to deliberate and cast their votes for their favourite campaign, the room buzzed with anticipation. Meanwhile, in an unexpected turn, four students seized the opportunity to take the stage and share their personal journeys and reflections on the Global Mentorship Programme. With heartfelt anecdotes and candid storytelling, they painted a vivid picture of their transformative experiences throughout the program. From the invaluable guidance of their mentors to the practical skills gained and friendships forged, each student articulated the profound impact the mentorship had on their personal and professional growth. Their testimonials resonated deeply with their peers, underscoring the immense value and benefits of being part of Global Inspire. As they concluded their presentations to a loud applause, it was evident that their stories had left a mark on all those present, reaffirming the program’s significance in nurturing the next generation of talent.

With the presentations concluded and the votes tallied, the anticipation reached its peak as the Industry Panel made their decision. After careful deliberation, they announced that Team 5 had emerged victorious with their standout campaign, collaborating Capital’s SummerTime Ball with Netflix. As cheers erupted throughout the room, Global wasted no time in extending a special invitation to Team 5. They were invited back to Global HQ in Leicester Square to further develop their winning concept, a testament to their creativity, innovation, and strategic thinking. As the day drew to a close, there was a palpable sense of excitement and accomplishment in the air. It had been a day filled with collaboration and creativity leaving everyone inspired and eager for the next chapter in their journey with Global.
