National Apprenticeship Week 2021

As part of National Apprenticeship Week – we wanted to celebrate some of our alumni students who are now working in the industry on an Apprenticeship.

Krystal D’Anjou who graduated in 2020 was interviewed by Tom Swarbrick on LBC about her new Apprenticeship role and how Global Academy set her up for this.

Krystal is a Junior Content Producer on Global’s video team creating social editorial content for Global’s radio brands and their digital platforms.

When asked what was great about Global Academy – Krystal told Tom about the plethora of real life projects and opportunities she received during her time at the Academy.

Krystal said:

“I had so many work experiences in one month – far more than my friends at university were having!”

When quizzed about what made the Academy unique, Krystal added: “The equipment gave us complete creative freedom to create anything we wanted. We really get prepared for industry. The staff treated you like adults and had the vision to help you for the future”

“My teacher was right”

Krystal added:“My Visual and Enterprise lessons prepared me for industry. We would get put on real life projects for companies and had to work to deadlines. My teacher was very strict when it came to pre production and how to be efficient. I was always like “why are we learning this – it’s so long.  He promised me that this is what it’s like in the industry. Now I realise he was right the whole time!”

And on being an Apprentice..

Krystal added in the interview:

“I love being an apprentice. They treat me as part of the team. I’ve worked in different departments and on lots of different projects – with big budgets! 

When quizzed on her advice for anyone who is thinking about an apprenticeship:

“Go for it. Especially in the creative industries. An apprenticeship is one of the best ways in”
