Chris Anderson, Head of TED, visited Global Academy to share insights from his latest book ‘Infectious Generosity’ with Year 10 and Year 14 students

At Global Academy, we pride ourselves on providing our students with exceptional opportunities to learn from industry leaders who inspire and motivate with their wisdom and experiences. Recently, we had the honour of hosting Chris Anderson, the Head of TED, whose insights have shaped millions of minds worldwide through the power of TED Talks.

You may be familiar with the phenomenon of TED Talks – those captivating speeches that delve into diverse topics, leaving audiences enlightened and eager for more. But to have the man behind the TED empire, Chris Anderson, grace our campus was a truly extraordinary experience for our Year 10 and Year 14 students.

Anderson, whose recent book ‘Infectious Generosity’ has gained widespread success, shared his thoughts on the importance of kindness and generosity in today’s world. In a time where negativity seems to pervade online spaces and media platforms, his message resonated deeply with our students due to their passion for creative media.

A quote made by Anderson that stood out was, “Among the many lessons of Covid-19, one of the most profound is this: You don’t need to be big to be powerful. You just need to be infectious.” This sentiment encapsulates the essence of his belief in the transformative power of small acts of generosity.

During his talk, Anderson drew attention to individuals like Jimmy Donaldson, known online as MrBeast, whose endeavours have earned him a massive following of 220 million subscribers on YouTube. MrBeast’s dedication to using his platform for acts of kindness deeply impresses Anderson, highlighting the importance of leveraging influence for positive change.

Following his presentation, our Year 14 students had the exclusive opportunity to engage in a Q&A session with Anderson. The intelligence and insightfulness of their questions left a lasting impression on him, further demonstrating the caliber of students we nurture at Global Academy.

Anderson’s visit not only provided our students with invaluable insights but also ignited a sense of purpose and responsibility to cultivate a culture of kindness and generosity in their own lives. His words serve as a reminder that regardless of our size or status, we all have the power to make a meaningful difference in the world.

As we reflect on Anderson’s visit, we are reminded of the importance of fostering a community where compassion and empathy thrive. At Global Academy, we remain committed to empowering our students to become compassionate leaders who inspire positive change in their communities and beyond.

In the spirit of Anderson’s message, let us embrace the power of generosity and kindness, knowing that even the smallest acts have the potential to spark profound change in the world.
