Rise Up Academy inspires and educates Global Academy students about career opportunities in broadcast engineering.

The broadcast technology industry is an exciting and dynamic sector that offers a wide range of career opportunities. However, many young people are unaware of the pathways available to them within this industry. The Rise Up Academy workshops at Global Academy aimed to change this by delivering hands-on workshops this half term that inspired, educated, and informed our students about the career opportunities available in broadcast engineering and technical roles.

Funded by BT Sport, ITV, and Discovery, the Rise Up Academy programme is designed to ensure there is a more diverse workforce entering the industry. The workshops are delivered by industry experts who provide students with practical skills and knowledge to help them succeed in the industry.

Global Academy students from all year groups and students from the nearby Hillingdon School took part in the workshops as part of our community outreach. The sessions gave students the chance to get ‘hands-on’ with the kit including camera, sound, graphics, voiceover, broadcast, and more. The students also had access to webinars from multiple partners across the sector, providing them with a comprehensive understanding of the industry.

During the workshops, the students had the opportunity to build a 4-camera studio and gallery – as part of creating a live game show. This gave students a valuable experience in working with industry-standard equipment and were able to apply their theoretical knowledge in a practical setting – gaining a deeper understanding of the technology and processes involved in broadcast engineering.

The Rise Up Academy workshop is an excellent way to inspire and encourage Global Academy students to consider a career in the broadcast technology industry. By providing them with hands-on experience and exposure to the industry, we hope to create a more diverse and skilled workforce that can contribute to the growth and development of this exciting industry.
