Year 12 Content Production Goes Behind the Scenes at Global HQ

Global Academy students explore the exciting world of radio at Global HQ, learning from industry experts and alumni for a future in media.

As part of our exciting industry and careers programme – Year 12 Content Production students with a got the chance to learn more about the dynamic world of radio and media. Students visited the bustling Global HQ, the centre of one of the world’s leading Media & Entertainment groups, to gain an exclusive peek behind the curtains of their favourite radio brands.

 

Global, renowned as the UK and Europe’s largest Radio & Outdoor company, is home to a multitude of respected, national, and market-leading media brands, including Capital, Heart, Classic FM, LBC, Smooth, Radio X, and more. Their innovative Global Player app offers a seamless experience, allowing listeners to enjoy all of these radio brands, award-winning podcasts, and expertly-curated playlists in one convenient location, making Global a major player in the media industry.

 

The day at Global HQ was a remarkable experience for the Year 12 Content Production students, who were not only given an insider’s view of the radio industry but also had the privilege of hearing from Global Academy alumni who have transitioned from school life to a full-time role and apprenticeship within the company. The journey of these alumni served as an inspiring and tangible example for the aspiring young minds.

 

Florence Ewulu in Year 12 student summed up her experience, saying:

 

I enjoyed the tour seeing all the different radio studios, the studios looked so cosy and such a calm environment to work in. There’s a great view from the balcony. You can even see the London eye from the balcony. I learnt more about the Global apprenticeship, and what industries I can end up in after global. Also got to explore the headquarters where each station records/ works. Plus – got to see a few famous faces including Tyla and Roman Kemp!

 

 

 

One of the highlights of the day was a panel discussion featuring a host of production staff, including producers, programmers, and the commercial team. These industry experts generously shared their knowledge and experiences, providing invaluable insights into what it’s like to work at Global. The students had the opportunity to ask questions, learning about the intricacies of radio production and the teamwork that goes into making the magic happen behind the microphone.

 

Global’s impressive line-up of radio brands is known for its high-quality content and its ability to resonate with a wide and diverse audience. This was evident throughout the visit as students were exposed to the depth and breadth of content creation, marketing, and broadcasting that takes place at Global HQ. The day served as an eye-opener to the vast career opportunities available within the media and entertainment industry.
