The hallowed corridors of the Royal Albert Hall played host to a careers trip for our Year 12 students who got the chance to experience what happens at a live event like Classic FM Live.

The Royal Albert Hall has been home to the annual celebration of the world’s greatest music and performers since April 2000 – and our students got to see how the event was put together as well as the technical set ups to capture video, audio and social content for Classic FM Live broadcasts.

Students also got to see the rehearsals for the show including the Chineke! Orchestra, directed by the dynamic American conductor Damon Gupton as well as the backstage areas for artists and talent including Classic FM presenters Alexander Armstrong and Margherita Taylor before they took the stage for the show which featured an unmissable lights-and-fireworks finale to the sound of Tchaikovsky’s mighty 1812 Overture.

Year 12 student, Lucy Crane captured the experience with the following account:

The Classic FM trip was one I will never forget for sure; it was so interesting! Not only did we learn so much about the event and venue, we also got to see what it was like for people running the event backstage. We saw the orchestra rehearsing for the live performance and where the royal family sit when watching shows at the Royal Albert Hall. We also got to see dressing rooms for the performers and the entrance VIPs use for their visit to see live performances and shows. The building is 150 years old this year so it’s seen everything from classic fm all the way to a tennis tournament in 1977! Overall it was a great tour and I’m so grateful I got to visit.
